GSC and Damir begun working together in the height of the clay court season in 2015. Damir had a solid run up to the French Open reaching the semi-final in the ATP 250 event in Casablanca beating the 4th 6th seeds. The French Open was a big break through for Damir where he beat two greats of the game in Youzhny and Baghdatis before meeting Roger Federer in the Third Round. The profile of the match allowed the public to fall for Damir and his story in which the hospital where he was born fell in the Bosnian war weeks after birth to later be turned into the tennis centre where he now trains by his coach and father, Nerfid.
By winning 2017 St. Petersburg Open singles tournament, Džumhur became the first player competing under the Bosnian flag to claim an ATP World Tour title. He added triumph in 2017 Kremlin Cup onto that, as the first player in tennis history to win in the same season both events played on Russian soil.
